where the ocean meets the sky

Gili Islands Part 2
I've been soaking up the sun here in Gili T (off the coast of lombok) for the past few days. In a way Gili T is just a little party island. No one has anything to do apart from swim, eat and do pretty much nothing at all.
There are no cars here so everyone is one bicycles or everything is pulled by little ponies and carts.
Here's a few snaps to feed your minds!

big jet plane

I am currently in HOT HOT gili islands off the coast of lombok in indonesia.

To get here we had to take a airbus to melbourne (our flight was delayed), a plane to bali, a taxi, a mini bus and a super fast jet boat (which i hated, the sea was angry that day my friends) over to the islands! Here are some snaps so far.

Waiting for our flight from melbourne.

Today i wore: Vintage blazer, Tee - sportsgirl, jeans - nudies, vintage pendant and bracelet, vintage clogs and leather bag from colarado.

Tomorrow I saying goodbye to everything and everyone and going to indonesia.
I am excited to go but there is so much i will miss here at home (some minor some major). I'll say goodbye to a comfortable bed, familiar faces, morning earl grey teas, constant internet, my iphone, my jeans and blazers, my vintage store, my dear puppy and mostly upsetting goodbye to Luke (who I'll not see for a month now, hmmm).

Although I'll be saying hello to a lot of new things (some exciting some not!) such as going out for lunch and dinner everyday, shopping shopping shopping, living out of a suitcase for 3 weeks, a new tan, a loss of money, some exciting little adventures (will let you in on the plans when they come around!), relaxation, planes rides (personal phobia!), animals everywhere and the amazing, busy and culture overload of a place that is the little island of Bali.

Let me tell you now that i will definitely be posting as much as i can when I'm over there and by that I mean at least every second day (hopefully). I'm just excited to show off this place i love and show everyone at home what I'm getting up to. So stay tunned dears!

Photobucket

I wore this lovely blazer yesterday shopping. I've had it for at least a year and have been waiting for a special time to wear it but i just thought ' what the hell! Now or never!' and I got some lovely compliments on it.
Also adore this lovely purse locket i got from sportsgirl.

Blogger Interview: We Killed Couture

Photobucket

Photobucket

Name: Madeleine Louise

Age: 17

From: Brisbane, Australia

Blog: www.wekilledcouture.com/

Photobucket

What got you into blogging?
I needed a creative outlet and after following other blogs for a short amount of time I realized it was the perfect medium to do so!

What do you do and what’s in a normal day for you?
I'm finishing my last year of high school, and I work nearly 6 days a week at a pizza store (totally glamorous and all) and then I model part-time while waiting to graduate.
My days get pretty hectic, I get up very early, check all my emails and blogs etc., go to school, come home from school, walk straight to work, walk home from work, check emails and blogs before bed.. and then get up and do it all again!
And I fit in hot yoga and swimming whenever I can!

Photobucket

How did you become a model?
I was approached by my now mother agent and she said she wanted to take that role, and that was in February this year, so I'm very new to the whole thing.

What was your first modelling job and what did it involve?
Just under 2 years ago I was approached by a local designer and he wanted me to model for a campaign he was styling for a new furniture designer. Ended up in some magazine somewhere! But back then it was just because I knew the designer. Then I was also his model for his A/W 2010 Collection that was shown at New Zealand Fashion Week last year

Photobucket

What’s you favourite style/trend to wear?
Anything and everything, I like to think I generally mix a few styles into my outfits, but it all depends on my mood!

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
New York. Cliché but it's true.

Photobucket

What’s the most exciting/most fun thing you’ve done this year?
Met another Brisbane blogger, Jessy from Wide awake Thoughts - Really amazing to meet someone so inspiring and like-minded!

What inspires you and who are your style icons?
Winter and the cold, Animals, Nature. Inspiration really depends on my mood though, one day I could find inspiration in something that previously I never even would have been interested by. I wouldn't call them icons, but i am always inspired by Anna Dello Russo, Freja Beha Erichson, Karmen Pedaru.. there are so many more though because my style evolves so much.

Photobucket

What’s your (current) Favourite:

Nail colour?
Matte Black

Shoes?
My Miu Miu satin platforms

Item of Clothing to wear?
My grey fur coat

Book?
Oh this is hard... right at the moment it is the Millennium trilogy
But I have a lot of old favourites.

Photobucket

Place to shop?
Online. If I have to go shopping in Brisbane my first choice is always Fallow.

Place to visit?
In Australia that would be Melbourne, without a doubt.

Food?
Watermelon

Film?
Donnie Darko or Twin Peaks ( I know it's a TV series but it's just too amazing not to mention)

Favourite thing to do in your spare time?
Sewing and yoga.

Photobucket

And Lastly, tell us the meaning or reason behind your blog name?
wekilledcouture is basically expressing how we (society) have killed the couture industry.
Not exactly killed it, more like slowly strangling it.. But that isn't quite as catchy.
The obsession with quantity over quality and the rise of "fast fashion" is the cause of this in my opinion.
And as I have an irrevocable love for the creation of true haute couture and couture garments and the techniques involved I wanted to express my feelings on the matter.
One day I will try and express it in a bit more detail but basically that’s the reasoning!

Wore my brand new dress out to dinner for a friends birthday and then out for drinks.
Funny that when i buy new things they are vintage inspired anyway. I love the puffy shoulders on this dress and of course navy is always a winner with me. Oh and i love these chunky boots, very comfy.

Oh and don't mind the split in my bottom lip. It decided to split under the pressure of being out all day and night in the cold!

Dinner and drinks at El Sol and crazy mexican restaurant with huge tables, loud music, eclectic decor (from surfboards hanging from the roof to big wooden hippos!) and big jugs of Sangria! So So yummy

Product Review: Honey Pie dress by Secret Squirrel

Photobucket

Taking inspiration from the Beatles record of the same name, Secret
Squirrel present their AW10 collection, The White Album
This dress is one of the amazing pieces in The White Album collection inspired by fashion from the 60s. “The range incorporates a soft nostalgic femininity, with demure pleated knee length skirts and schoolgirl style collared pinafores that button up to the neck.”

I am a huge fan of secret squirrel because “Vintage fashions are a key inspiration for the label” and as you know I’m a little ‘vintage crazy’. Since the labels inception, Secret Squirrel has experienced a swift rise to cult fashion fame – featuring in Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, Marie Claire, Russh, Yen and Frankie just to name a few.

Item type: Dress – Honey Pie Dress

Material: viscose/rayon

Colour: Midnight (also available in Chambray)

Description:
This dress takes the neckline of the season (Peter Pan collar made popular by Alexa Chung) and make it it’s own with buttons all the way down the front. Sleeveless and short pinafore style.
One of the things I love about chambray and denim material is that it fades with wear so I can’t wait to see how this design evolves.

Feeling when wearing: When I wore this outfit to a fancy lunch I felt like a lovely well-behaved girl but when worn out at night I felt like a rock star in my dress paired with platform boots.

Best climate: One of the things I love about this dress is it can be worn in both hot and cold climates. It can be worn with stockings, some classic leather boots, belt and a lovely vintage coat in winter but also a breezy and edgy substitute in summer! This dress is easily be dress up or dressed down.

Where to wear: I love navy dresses because they are so versatile but this dress exceeds expectations. As said above it can be dressed up with classic heels or can be dressed down when paired with grunge boots.

Faults: When I wore my dress with tights the fabric on the inside of the hem started to form tiny fabric balls but frankly that doesn’t matter to me at all since its on the inside of the dress and it was mostly my tights fault. No other faults at all, very happy =)

Tips: Buttons up for well behaved during the day and buttons down for play =)

Price: This design has recently been reduced from $204 to $144.30 in the secret squirrel online store! Just in time to wear through the rest of winter and will be perfect for spring (I can’t wait to wear mine when I’m in Indonesia in the hot weather!)

Thoughts:
I think the thing I love most about this dress is that it can be worn as both a classic design but can been worn in a party atmosphere with chunky boots and a grunge belt too.

Secret squirrel has definitely captured what they believe about clothes in this design, “Clothes that are simple and elegant without necessarily looking ’simple and elegant”.

Big thank you to Andrew and the Secret Squirrel Team!!!
